Winners of the creative works competition for the Year of Quality were awarded at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

On December 12, 2024, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus held an awards ceremony for the winners of the national competition of creative works dedicated to the Year of Quality.

Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician Vladimir Gusakov, noted the importance of involving young people in scientific activities. "I am glad that the competition has attracted broad public interest. About 700 people from all over the country took part in it. These are people of different ages, levels of education and life experience, including schoolchildren and students. The youngest are kindergarten students. Research projects, software products, models, poems, stories, fairy tales, crafts and other creative works were presented," said Vladimir Gusakov.

The Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus highlighted projects in the field of physical and mathematical profile, in the field of careful treatment of natural resources, improving the quality of products, materials, technologies, processing of secondary raw materials, and cultivation of agricultural crops.

More than 200 participants were recognized as laureates and finalists. They received awards — diplomas and memorable prizes. The works were evaluated by leading scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The competition was announced in February 2024. Seven nominations were presented: "Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science — the Basis of High-Quality Processing, Transmission, Storage and Protection of Information"; "Physical and Technical Innovations to Enhance the Competitiveness of Domestic Production"; "Achievements in Chemistry and Nature Management — for the Year of Quality"; "Respectful Attitude to Natural Resources and Preservation of Biological Diversity"; "Medical Science — the Basis of High Quality of Life"; "Humanities — for the Year of Quality"; "Agrarian Science — for High Quality of Agricultural Products".

Winners were chosen in three categories: among schoolchildren and students; master's degree students, postgraduate students, young scientists; academic, university and industry scientists, teachers, creative people (over 35 years old). Participants could be both individuals and author groups of no more than three people.

The results of research published in the form of articles (a series of articles) in scientific and popular science publications, developments that are competitive, effective, and of socio-economic significance, as well as models, samples, scientific reports, presentations, journalistic articles, essays, musical and artistic works, prose and poetry were presented.

High-level works are also presented in the field of medicine. As noted by the academician-secretary of the medical sciences department of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Bogdan, they are of both fundamental and applied nature, reflect the directions of development of medical science in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, educational institutions, and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center. "About a hundred works have been submitted to our commission alone — in traumatology, oncology, and in the field of creating medical devices," said Vasily Bogdan.

Before the award ceremony, the guests got acquainted with the permanent exhibition "Achievements of Domestic Science – to Production" and visited the Museum of the History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
