Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee for Science and Technology Tatyana Stolyarova spoke about scientific and technical cooperation with Vietnam during the 16th meeting of the Belarusian-Vietnamese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak and Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Nguyen Hong Dien.

Tatyana Stolyarova spoke about the cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and technology. According to her, the basis of bilateral cooperation in the scientific, technical and innovation spheres is the intergovernmental agreement between our countries (signed on June 5, 1995). Coordination is carried out by the joint Belarusian-Vietnamese commission on scientific and technical cooperation, the last meeting of which was held in September 2019. The parties decided to announce a competition of Belarusian-Vietnamese scientific and technical projects for 2021-2022 in priority areas. As part of the implementation of the agreements reached, the State Committee on Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam held a competition and implemented 6 joint projects: 2 in the field of nanotechnology and one project each in the field of medicine, construction technologies, multifunctional materials and rational nature management.

In addition, there is interaction between scientific organizations and educational institutions of both countries, as well as between the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Following the participation of scientific and technical developments of the Republic of Belarus at the Vietnam Expo exhibition in 2023, Belarusian and Vietnamese scientific organizations signed 14 cooperation agreements. As well as a commercial contract worth 500 thousand euros. "By the end of 2024, Belarusian exports of high-tech goods to Vietnam amounted to more than $75 million, and its share in total exports to Vietnam was more than 85%. This indicates that there are prospects for developing cooperation between our countries," Tatyana Stolyarova noted.

In her opinion, the implementation of joint projects is a great potential for cooperation in the scientific and technical sphere. "In such areas as agriculture, waste management, energy conservation, peaceful use of outer space, ICT, medicine, innovative mechanical engineering, new materials and others. In order to intensify cooperation, we propose organizing the twelfth meeting of the joint Belarusian-Vietnamese commission on scientific and technical cooperation in Belarus in the fourth quarter of 2025, where we will consider in detail and agree on specific proposals on the prospects for cooperation, including the selection of mutually beneficial scientific and technical projects for implementation," the deputy chairperson emphasized.
