Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is the main holiday of the Belarusian statehood, which is celebrated annually on July 3. The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day Minsk was liberated from German occupation, was made during a republican referendum in 1996. It was announced in 1996 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated December 11, 1996 No. 1 “On the establishment of a public holiday the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus”. This holiday is dear to all Belarusians as a memory of those who defended the independence of their Motherland on the battlefields. It unites everyone who honors the history of their country, who, with their work and talent, makes a daily contribution to the prosperity of their native land. Solemn events, laying of wreaths and flowers at monuments, sports events will be held throughout the republic on this day. |
