Promoting innovation as a source of international competitiveness (Minsk, 15 November 2012)

On 15 November 2012 in Minsk the international scientific and practical workshop “Promoting innovation as a source of international competitiveness” took place. It was the third event within the Action plan of the State Committee on Science and Technologies of Belarus and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe for 2012-2013 on improving the state innovation policy in Belarus. The Workshop was organized jointly by the UNECE and the Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support of Scientific and Technical Sphere.

The event was attended by more than 70 experts and stakeholders from Belarus, UK, Switzerland, Russia and the UNECE. Belarusian participants received the latest practical information about the methodology of the international ratings of competitiveness and innovation activities. The presence and place of Belarus in these ratings has been discussed, the strengths and weaknesses of the innovation capacity and global competitiveness of the national economy analyzed. International experts presented their recommendations for improving the Belarus position in the leading global ratings, such as, for example, the Global Innovation Index. As a separate issue, the reasons have been discussed for lack of Belarus in the two of the leading rankings of the global competitiveness — WEF Global Competitiveness Index and IMD Global Competitiveness Index.
