Meeting of the Interstate Council for Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation

On 23 May 2023, the Director of the SI BelISA Natalia Pavlova took part in the meeting of the Interstate Council for Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation, which was held via videoconference at the site of the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk.

The Interstate Council for Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (ICSTI) was established in accordance with the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government of 20 November 2009 on the establishment of a CIS sectoral cooperation body in science, technology and innovation spheres. The participants are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Moldova.

The main activities of the STI IC include the coordination of science, technology and innovation policy in general and its individual components; the formation of financial and economic mechanisms to support joint science, technology and innovation programmes and projects in the countries participating in the agreement.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the results of work in the CIS countries in the science, technology and innovation spheres. They considered the draft Regulation on Technology Platforms within the Interstate Programme for Innovation Cooperation of the CIS Member States until 2030, as well as proposals on the criteria for selecting and financing projects and holding technology competitions under this programme.

The Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Shlychkov, has been re-elected as the Chairman of the STI Council.

Members of the Interstate Council supported the proposal to grant the status of a base organisation of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the field of development of high-performance computing and big data processing to the National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute". — Kurchatov Institute of Nuclear Physics, St. Petersburg B.P. Konstantinov Institute of Nuclear Physics (PIAP).

The deputy head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) also considered a report on the implementation of the 2021-2022 Interstate Programme for Innovative Cooperation among the CIS member states until 2030.

The meeting also heard and approved a report from a representative of the CIS Executive Committee on the activities of the Interstate Council for Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation for the period 2018-2022.

The next 33rd meeting of the STI IC is planned for the second half of 2023.
