Joint research and academic mobility: Belarus proposes mechanisms for interaction in the Belt and Road Initiative

At the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Belt and Road Initiative on Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Chengdu, China, Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Tatyana Stolyarova made a report outlining the priorities and prospects for scientific and technological cooperation within the framework of the global initiative.
She emphasized Belarus's openness to international cooperation: "In the Republic of Belarus, the development of the scientific and technological sphere is one of the main priorities of state policy. We are open to cooperation in the field of science and high technology with all countries of the world."
“In this context, Belarus attaches particular importance to the Belt and Road initiative, viewing it as a unique platform for mutually beneficial partnership in the field of research and development, where the strengths of some complement the needs and capabilities of others,” noted the Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee on Science and Technology.
To achieve sustainable growth, the Belarusian side proposed to intensify cooperation in areas of key importance for most participating countries. Among them were: digital technologies, artificial intelligence, industrial innovations, biotechnology, healthcare and innovative agriculture.
Tatyana Stolyarova also announced specific mechanisms for deepening cooperation: creation of an initiative of excellence centers in key areas based on leading scientific organizations of the countries; expansion of academic mobility programs, joint training of specialists with a focus on STEM disciplines, internships in leading technology companies and scientific centers; conducting joint research and development.
At the same time, she highly appreciated the already established cooperation with China: "I would like to note and thank the Ministry of Science and Technology of China for the joint fruitful project activities. Currently, Belarusian and Chinese organizations are implementing a number of joint scientific and technical projects."
In conclusion of her speech, Tatyana Stolyarova stressed the importance of using technology for the benefit of humanity. “Our country fully shares the goals of sustainable development and improving the well-being of peoples,” she said, confirming Belarus’s readiness “to contribute to the use of global scientific and technological innovations for the benefit of all countries of the Belt and Road initiative.”
Addressing the Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Yin Hejun, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology noted the high level of organization of the conference, expressing confidence that this “will undoubtedly contribute to the development of constructive solutions concerning the innovative development of our countries.”
