38th Tripoli International Fair (2-7 April 2009, Libya)

The State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus together with Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support of Scientific and Technical Sphere organized a section of Belarusian S&T developments within the National Exposition of Belarus at the 38th Tripoli International Fair, 2–7 April 2009, Libya.

   


In total, over 1000 companies representing 38 countries have taken part in the Fair. The solemn opening of the Exhibition was held on 2 April. In the opening ceremony the following officials have taken part: V.Semashko, First Deputy Prime-Minister of Belarus, Muhammad al-Huadge, Minister of Industry, Economy and Trade of Libya and representatives of the countries presented at the Fair:

  • Minister of Foreign Trade and Minister of Export of Morocco.
  • Minister of Economic Development of Indonesia.
  • Minister of Economy Revival of Portugal.
  • Minister of Economic Development of Italy.
  • Director General of the Centre for Export development of Tunisia, etc.

At the collective exposition of the Ministry of Education of Belarus over 90 exhibits of 9 universities and S&T Park “Metolit” of BNTU have been demonstrated: Belarusian State University, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State Technological University, Polotsk State University, Belarusian-Russian University, Belarusian State University of Transport, Gomel State University, Gomel State Technical University, Vitebsk State Technological University.

A system of post-graduate education is missing in Libya. That’s why many visitors of the exposition of the Ministry of Education were interested in post-graduate training in the high schools of Belarus. Basically, the questions concerned an opportunity of training in magistracy and having PhD programs: specializations, scientific directions, cost of training, residing, etc. The majority of the visitors were interested in the opportunity of training in English. The explanations were given to all the interested persons and the catalogues of Belarusian higher education institutions with a list of educational services have been provided.

Under the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in Libya a meeting of the representatives of Belarusian industrial enterprises with the members of Libyan Council of Businessmen has been organized. During the meeting the information on S&T developments of Belarusian high schools was delivered by the representatives of the Ministry of Education, and also the options for cooperation were offered. In particular, the methods of finish processing of metal surfaces, technology of surface hardening, technology of laser cutting and technologies of drawing of coverings have been proposed as the topics for cooperation.

The exposition of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was formed by the Scientific Practical Center for Material Sciences, Institute of Metals Technology, Heat and Mass Transfer Institute and Scientific Production Amalgamation “Tsentr”. All the exhibits have caused an interest of the visitors resulted in numerous meetings and negotiations with the representatives of companies, enterprises and organizations of Libya, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran and Jordan. During these meetings the answers were given about developments and devices, specificities of technologies, substances and materials offered, and also about their prices.

As a result of the activities at the Exhibition the agreements on the further cooperation have been achieved and a number of protocols on intentions have been signed. The organizations — participants of the collective S&T exposition have been awarded with the diplomas of the Exhibition.
